SUBW
navigation Sunday! A few of us met up in Red ridge trail for a quick
navigation course ran by Mitchell. After an introduction and
orienteering session, it was time to put our knowledge to test in a mini
rogaining event! Without using any GPS device, we had to use only a
compass and a map to navigate and find the flags hidden in certain
places! Joel and I were in a team. We decided to go for the abundant
middle points instead of the far but few points. Our strategy worked and
we won the event! However, the most important thing was that we had
fun. I'm also very happy that I had gained more confidence in leading
more trips thanks to this event.

Total lunar eclipse viewing ðŸ”
First time viewing a total lunar eclipse with my telescope.
I went to Terry Hills with my two neighbours for a 'blood moon' watching night. The lunar eclipse is a rare event happening twice a year on a full moon. Being able to looking it up close while it was going into the earth's shadow was amazing. However, we only had an azimuth mount which means we had to adjust the telescope as the moon moved by ourselves. I spotted Vesta, the brightest asteroid as well but could not move the telescope to it since I didn't want to lose the moon. A great night for an astronomy beginner!
The moon was shining very bright
